Terms of use

Plain English, because a journal asks for the truth and you should get the same back. Using SayTrail means these terms apply to you.

Who you are dealing with

SayTrail is built and run by Dhruv Tomar, an individual in India. There is no company behind it, and we would rather say so than dress it up. Reach a human at saytrailai@gmail.com.

What SayTrail is

A voice-first journal. You speak; SayTrail transcribes what you said, writes the entry in your own words, keeps your trail, and knocks when you have gone quiet. Ask lets you put questions to your own journal. It is software that helps you keep a habit — not a therapist, not medical or crisis care, and not advice. If you are in danger or in distress, please reach a person or a helpline, not an app.

Your account

The journal needs an account. You sign in with your email — we send a link, there is no password to remember or lose. Keep that inbox to yourself: anyone who can open your email can open your journal. The optional PIN and fingerprint unlock are device-local conveniences on top, not a second account.

What Free includes, forever

Speaking at any hour, for as long as you like. Transcription. The written entry. Your whole trail, with no history limit. Export whenever you want. The knock when you go quiet. And Ask, reaching the last 30 days.

The habit is never metered. SayTrail does not count your entries, cap their length, or ration your days. A journal that counts you is a journal you quit, and we would rather have the person.

Your first 14 days

Everyone starts on full Pro for 14 days. It is automatic and card-free — there is nothing to enter, nothing to cancel, and no charge waiting at the end of it. The clock runs from the day your account was created and nothing can reset it.

When it ends, it simply lapses to Free. Nothing is deleted, nothing stops, and every recording you have already made stays exactly where it is. Ask goes back to the last 30 days. Lapsing closes the window, never the door.

Pro, and who takes the money

Pro costs ₹199 a month or ₹1,499 a year. Today it means one thing that is live: Ask reaches your whole trail instead of the last 30 days. The Voice Vault and the reflection voices are named on the pricing page as not open yet, and we will not pretend otherwise here.

Payment is handled by Dodo Payments, who are the merchant of record for every SayTrail subscription. That means Dodo — not us — is the seller on your receipt, takes the money, handles the tax, and holds the payment mandate. Your card details never touch SayTrail. You buy on saytrail.com/pricing; the Android app does not sell anything.

A subscription renews for the same period, at the same price, until it is cancelled. Pro is granted only when Dodo tells us the money arrived — a signed webhook, not a redirect. If a renewal payment fails and Dodo is retrying, you keep the period you have already paid for.

Cancelling

You can cancel any time, and you keep Pro until the end of the period you already paid for. We do not claw it back the moment you cancel.

There is no cancel button inside SayTrail yet — being straight with you rather than sending you hunting for one. Email saytrailai@gmail.com from the address you paid with and we will stop the renewal, or cancel through Dodo Payments, who hold the mandate. Cancelling stops future billing. It deletes nothing. Money already taken is covered by the refund policy.

Your words are yours

Everything you speak into SayTrail belongs to you — the recording, the transcript, the written entry, all of it. You keep ownership; we do not claim any of it, sell it, or train anything on it. The only permission you give us is the narrow one needed to run the product for you: to send your audio for transcription, store your entries, and let an AI model read an entry while it is doing your work — cleaning a transcript, answering your question, writing your nightly card.

You can export your complete journal as Markdown or JSON at any time, and delete your account and every entry in it whenever you like. Neither costs anything and neither needs our permission. See privacy for who sees what and when, and delete your account for exactly what goes.

What we ask of you

Use SayTrail for your own journal. Do not use it to break the law, to store or send material that harms other people, to record someone who has not agreed to it, or to pass off another person’s account as yours. Do not attack the service — no scraping, no probing for holes, no attempts to reach another person’s entries, no reselling access. Do not try to grant yourself Pro you have not paid for.

SayTrail is one person’s software running on other people’s infrastructure. It is offered as it is, without a promise that it will never be down, never lose a connection, or never get a word wrong. Transcription and the AI writing are very good and are not perfect; read your entry before you rely on it.

Ending it, from either side

You can leave whenever you want — delete your account and the rows are gone, with no retention window and no soft delete.

We would close an account for the things listed just above: illegal use, harming others, or attacking the service. If it comes to that we will tell you at the address on the account, give you a chance to export unless the law or somebody’s safety makes waiting impossible, and refund the unused part of anything you had paid for. We will not close a paid account quietly, and we will not close one for what you chose to write in your own journal.

If these terms change

We will change the date at the top and, for anything that actually affects you — the price, what Free includes, how your words are handled — email the address on your account before it takes effect. Carrying on using SayTrail after that is how you accept the new version. If you would rather not, cancel and export; both are free.

Law, and the last word

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. If one clause turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
